Former project '31 Model A for Aaron Wendt. It had the top chopped 6", I'm just welding it up.

...so our buddy Aaron came over, said he wanted to chop the top on his '31 project, but needed someone to weld it. We said sure. Here's how we found it, minus 6".

Here's how we got it...The top was tacked on. We also need to fab some type of trunk. The original rumble seat was cut out by the former owner (probably during or right after WWII),
and a gas tank was slid in for hauling fuel around the farm. It won't be pretty, but we will make something.

First thing, brace it up.

...someday...

Lots of rust holes.

The first one fixed.

Neighbor Mark coming to check progress.

Top removed. Quite a bit of work to get it leveled out.

L.F. A Pillar is back together. And no, they are not straight
up and down...plus 3 pie cuts to make things match. They
also tilt slightly in at the top, meaning the top door
hinge will have to be modified.

Here is the other side. There was a rust hole, looked like a
mirror was attached at one point, so I had to form a little
3 sided piece to fill in.

B pillar support channel that Jr. made for both sides, where
the wood came out.
One more thing.... door window opening, 7 1/2"...
Sonic drink cup, 8 3/8".

Rear of cab...a couple cuts to make things line up.

12-14-08...Corner pieces made for the new trunk area.
Not sure how pretty it will be, but it will be a trunk.

Close up...doesn't look like much, but quite a bit of forming
to make it match up.

Fill panel made between two corner pieces.

Lower trunk area. I formed up a box and put a slight
bow in it, to match frame rail. Rear corners of the
body are pretty ragged, so I will cut them off flush and
weld to new panel. Not cutting much good metal, as
it is pretty rusted up.

Wider view of trunk area. I will make the side pieces next,
and that will give me a rectangular hole to make a trunk
lid. This body is tweaked some, there is about 3/8 inch
difference in length from side to side. I'm pretty
sure I can cover that up fairly well.
I've....got a plan...(spoken in a Capt. Kirk voice)

Left side trunk piece mocked up.

Here it is, tacked in. Right side is rough fabbed.

Door frames will need a little work. Too much was cut out
on the initial chop. Not sure what the plan will be.

Body fab is complete. I will build the trunk lid after
the body is on the frame.

Another view...I just need to finish weld the roof, and
it will go home for a while.

Here is the top back on.

Top door hinge with door closed...looks like it is working.

Hinge is cut at the A pillar and tacked back. Bottom
two hinges are doing all the work.

The finished (for now) job.
